Chairman’s Message

DR. MARY ROSE MD, FRCSEd (A&E), MMCFD

Dear friends and colleagues

On behalf of the second Malta Resuscitation Council (MRC) I welcome you to this website. Since its inception in 2004 the MRC has worked hard to fulfill its aims and as the chairperson of the second council I would like to share with you our progress so far and also give you a preview of what this council is planning.

First of all I want to thank all members of the first council who worked hard to establish this organization. It is on the solid structure they created that this second council will continue to work and advance. I also want to thank all the people who support the MRC and the electoral commissioners for the second election held on the 21st February 2007, Dr. Anthony Gatt and Ms. Catherine Micallef.

The current second MRC Executive Committee is set up as follows:

  • Chairperson: Dr Mary Rose Cassar

  • Vice Chair: Dr Mario Zerafa

  • Secretary: Dr Jonathan Joslin

  • Treasurer/  Chair of BLS sub-committee: Dr Anna Spiteri

  • Vice-treasurer: Dr. Marthese Bartolo

  • Member / Chair of ALS/ILS sub-committee: Dr Tanya Esposito

  • Member/ Chair of EPLS sub-committee: Dr Simon Attard Montalto

  • Member/ Public Relations Officer: Mr Mario Fleri Soler

  • Member/ Public Relations Officer: Mr Trevor Abela Fiorentino

  • Member: Dr Michael Spiteri

  • Member: Mrs Vicky Bugeja Rausi

This second council has already drawn up and started working on a term planner. In summary our plans are:

  • To continue to establish the MRC as a leading resuscitation organization in Malta and to co-operate with other medical, paramedical and rescue organizations.

  •  BLS sub-committee: This popular course will continue to run on regular frequent basis and an instructor course will shortly be organized. These dates will be available on the web site for pre-booking and advertised on well circulated journals. To date this course has been successfully run 5 times in 2006 and 4 times up to September 2007. The demand for this course is very encouraging. Discussions with the Malta College of Family Doctors have now also lead to its accreditation within this college’s continuing medical education scheme.

  • The ALS / ILS sub- committee: Discussions are on the way to get these European Resuscitation Council’s (ERC) courses to Malta. Initially all the faculty members would have to be foreign but eventually we plan to train local instructors so as to become self sufficient, run these courses regularly and cut costs.

  • The EPLS sub-committee: This committee may consider in the future running 2 courses per year due to the great popularity of this course.

  •  2008 Resuscitation conference. A scientific sub-committee is already set up and has started working on the organization and planning. Details would be shortly published on this website.

  • To strengthen our membership base with your help.

I would here like to invite those interested in the various aspects of resuscitation to come forward and join us.

In conclusion the MRC will be working harder to achieve our main aim which is saving more lives and this we consider a privilege.

11th September 2007.
